Key fob replacement and programming in Denver
With the right programmer, a mobile locksmith can pair a new fob to most cars right at the curb and delete a lost one from the car's memory. Fixr's range for fob or transponder programming is $50 to $200, and Kelley Blue Book prices a push-button smart key at $200 to $400.

Rule out the battery
Do this before paying anyone. A fob runs on a coin cell, and coin cells fade in cold weather; DIA averages 152 nights a year at or below freezing and 6 below zero (NOAA, 2016 to 2025). If the range shrinks a little more every January morning, a few dollars of battery may be the whole fix. A metal key usually hides inside the fob for the door, and many push-button cars start when you touch the fob to the button.

Signs it really needs programming
- It's lost or stolen.
- You want a second one.
- The new battery changed nothing.
- It took a trip through the washer, or into Clear Creek.

What Denver callers ask about this
Can a locksmith reprogram my key fob?
On most cars, yes. The locksmith pairs a new fob to the car and wipes the missing ones. Some newer and luxury models are dealer-only, and you'll hear that on the phone before anyone drives over.
Can I buy a fob online and have it programmed?
Sometimes. Many locksmiths decline to program a part they didn't supply, or won't stand behind it, because cheap online fobs fail often. Ask before buying.
